Rheomergy : collective behaviour mediated by active flow-based recruitment

چکیده

The physics of signal propagation in a collection organisms that communicate with each other both enables and limits how active excitations at the individual level reach, recruit lead to collective patterning. Inspired by patterns planar swarm bees release pheromones, use fanning flows additional bees, we develop theoretical framework for patterning via flow-based recruitment. Our model generalizes well-known Patlak-Keller-Segel diffusion-dominated aggregation leads more complex phase space spanned two dimensionless parameters measure scaled stimulus/activity chemotactic response. Together these determine efficacy communication variety migration consistent observations.

Behaviour Analysis for Web-Mediated Active Learning

Software-mediated learning requires adjustments in the teaching and learning process. In particular active learning facilitated through interactive learning software differs from traditional instructor-oriented, classroom-based teaching. We present behaviour analysis techniques for Web-mediated learning. Motivation, acceptance of the learning approach and technology, learning organisation and a...

Collective Flow Enhancement by Tandem Flapping Wings.

We examine the fluid-mechanical interactions that occur between arrays of flapping wings when operating in close proximity at a moderate Reynolds number (Re≈100-1000). Pairs of flapping wings are oscillated sinusoidally at frequency f, amplitude θ_{M}, phase offset ϕ, and wing separation distance D^{*}, and outflow speed v^{*} is measured. At a fixed separation distance, v^{*} is sensitive to b...

Interactions between Multiple Recruitment Drivers: Post-Settlement Predation Mortality and Flow-Mediated Recruitment

BACKGROUND Dispersal is a primary driver in shaping the future distribution of species in both terrestrial and marine systems. Physical transport by advection can regulate the distance travelled and rate of propagule supply to a habitat but post-settlement processes such as predation can decouple supply from recruitment. The effect of flow-mediated recruitment and predation on the recruitment s...

From Interactions to Collective Behaviour in Agent-based Systems

In this paper, we present the MAGMA approach to multi-agent systems, including a proposal of an integrative environment based upon the decomposition between agents, environments, interactions, and organisations. We then focus on the MAGMA work done for cognitive agents, and we detail the interactions between such agents. We propose an Interaction Language associated with Interaction Protocols. ...

Collective behaviour across animal species

We posit a new geometric perspective to define, detect, and classify inherent patterns of collective behaviour across a variety of animal species. We show that machine learning techniques, and specifically the isometric mapping algorithm, allow the identification and interpretation of different types of collective behaviour in five social animal species. These results offer a first glimpse at t...
